Host name

A host name is a character string that specifies a computer on a network.

In order to perform communication on a network, IP addresses that act as addresses are required.

However, it is difficult to recognize IP addresses as they are written in numbers.

Host names show them in alphanumeric characters.

• • Host name: google.com (IP address: 172.217.26.110)

The following shows the relationship among a host name, domain name and FQDN.

• • Host name：A character string that specifies a computer on a network.
  • Domain name：A character string that specifies a network on the Internet.
  • FQDN：A character string described by combining a host name and a domain name.
