A bridge is a relay device with the function to sort destinations by referring to the destination information (information of data link layers such as MAC addresses) received on a network.
Difference between Bridge and Router
A router is a relay device with the function to sort data. The following shows the difference between a router and a bridge.
- Bridge: Sorts destinations of data by referring to MAC addresses.
- Router: Sorts destinations of data by referring to IP addresses.
What is bridge mode?
Bridge mode is a mode in which the Router function (sorting data by IP addresses) is disabled and a router is used as a switching hub*.*A switching hub has the function to sort destinations of data by MAC addresses in the same way as a bridge.
