NAT
Network Address Translator
NAT is a mechanism that solves a shortage of global IP addresses by converting private and global IP addresses mutually on a one-to-one basis.
On the Internet, each terminal is identified by a unique value called an IP address. In association with the spread of the Internet, the number of IP addresses started to become insufficient. For this reason, a mechanism called NAT was developed.
What is NAPT?
There is a technology called "NAPT (Network Address Port Translation)" similar to NAT which converts port numbers in addition to IP addresses.
In comparison to NAT that can only convert IP addresses on a one-to-one basis, in addition to this, NAPT can convert different port numbers for each private IP address, which allows multiple PCs to connect to the Internet at the same time.
Currently, NAPT is used as NAT in many cases.
What is NAT Traversal?
Normally, it is impossible to directly reach devices without IP global addresses (PCs, home appliances, IP cameras, etc.) located inside a firewall or router from the Internet.
A technology that makes this possible is called NAT Traversal.
By using the mechanism of NAT Traversal, remote.it can connect to IP addresses under NAT from the Internet.
